Earlier this year we talked to you about it, and from our recent posts on Facebook you’ve been seeing signs of it, but let’s make it perfectly clear. We are out of the candy business, for now. It’s not because we don’t love making candy for you, it simply is not feasible to do it now. Between greatly increasing ingredient costs, and slower sales, we just couldn’t continue. And that pained us greatly. The last several months have been hard and depressing.
The saving grace has been learning new skills and the opportunities to be creative in new ways. Charles has been busy in the Candy Kitchen (it will always be called the Candy Kitchen, since that’s what it wants to be called, no matter what we make in it) testing amazing scents for a line of soaps and personal fragrances, while LaDonna has been using her graphic design degree for creating various t-shirts, buttons, and stickers.
What does that mean for Winthrop’s Whimsies?
We will definitely be back. Most likely early fall this year with a new product line. Providing items geared towards customers with unique tastes, leaning towards the whimsical. But, we’ll have something for everyone, even if they don’t realize it until they see it!
In case it isn’t clear, our new products will still #GiveJoy, but you probably shouldn’t eat them.
Will we still be Winthrop’s Whimsies?
We are changing the name of the business to reflect the new product line(s), but Whimsies will always be at the heart of the business! We’ve learned a lot over the past five years, and we’re going to take that hard earned knowledge, and make things even better!

As much as we love seeing our customers, please don’t knock on our door and ask to “come in and browse.”
